Director of National Armaments Rupert Peirce and Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, jointly opened UK Defence Show 2027: Building an Integrated Force.
Mr Pearce, who is responsible for defence procurement and industrial development, warned that Britain and its allies had just over four years to prepare for conflict.
Now is the time to focus on accelerating our efforts. We have until 2030 at the earliest to deter and prepare for combat. DSEI UK is a fantastic opportunity for all stakeholders to come together and discuss how to quickly advance this work.
He outlined a strategy to strengthen Britain’s defences by creating “an innovation mechanism that actively seeks out, develops and improves new technologies and capabilities.”
We need to develop our core competencies in such a way that they can integrate with future innovations.
The Defence and International Defence Exhibition (DSEI UK) needs to engage with all stakeholders, including the military, industry, procurement agencies, innovators and the financial sector… If we can do this at DSEI UK, we can make the UK Armed Forces one of the most innovative in the world.

Speaking about plans for this operation, the Chief of the Defence Staff warned countries of the need to prepare quickly.
Essentially, it’s a race; we must be faster and stronger than our competitors. To do this, we need to unite industry, science and technology, the military, and procurement specialists, and this is where DSEI comes in.
The Defence Exhibition and Science Exhibition UK (DSEI UK) is the flagship biennial defence event, expected to attract 65,000 visitors and up to 1,700 companies showcasing their developed and operational capabilities to the global defence market.
